Discover Arepera Guacuco

When you step into Arepera Guacuco in Brooklyn, NY, you're immediately greeted by the rich aroma of Venezuelan delicacies that transport you straight to the heart of South America. Located at 44 Irving Ave, this cozy spot brings the vibrant flavors of Venezuelan street food right to New York, offering a warm and inviting atmosphere that is perfect for a casual meal or a family gathering.

One of the standout dishes at Arepera Guacuco is, of course, their arepas. These golden, crispy cornmeal pockets are stuffed with a variety of fillings, making them a beloved choice among locals and visitors alike. Whether you opt for the traditional “Reina Pepiada” with its creamy chicken and avocado filling or prefer something with a bit more kick like the “Pabellón Criollo” which includes shredded beef, black beans, and plantains, there’s an option to satisfy every palate. The fillings are generous and fresh, paired perfectly with the warm, slightly crispy outer shell.

But it’s not just about the arepas at Arepera Guacuco. The restaurant also offers a wide range of Venezuelan specialties, such as cachapas (sweet corn pancakes filled with cheese) and empanadas, each bursting with flavor and authenticity. The restaurant doesn’t shy away from its roots, bringing the essence of Venezuelan cooking with every dish it serves. And if you're a fan of seafood, the "Camarones al Ajillo" (garlic shrimp) is a must-try-succulent shrimp bathed in a flavorful garlic sauce that adds depth and richness to each bite.

The drinks menu at Arepera Guacuco is equally impressive, with a selection of Venezuelan beverages like "papelón con limón" (a sweet sugarcane and lime drink) and fresh juices that pair wonderfully with the meals. If you're feeling adventurous, try their "Club Social" snack, a Venezuelan classic, or indulge in a dessert like "Quesillo," the Venezuelan version of flan, which is a perfect sweet note to end your meal.

What sets Arepera Guacuco apart from other eateries in Brooklyn is its commitment to authenticity. The ingredients used are often imported directly from Venezuela, ensuring that every dish is as close to the traditional recipes as possible. You can taste the care and effort that goes into each dish, whether it’s the preparation of the arepas, the slow-cooked meats, or the expertly fried empanadas. The flavors are bold, satisfying, and deeply tied to Venezuelan culture, offering a genuine taste of the country in every bite.

Located in a bustling neighborhood, the ambiance of Arepera Guacuco is relaxed and comfortable, making it an ideal place to enjoy a meal with friends or family. The service is warm and friendly, with staff who are always eager to share recommendations and provide a welcoming atmosphere for diners.

For those curious about the cultural aspects of Venezuelan cuisine, Arepera Guacuco also serves as a great introduction to the diverse culinary heritage of Venezuela. With every dish, you can experience a story-whether it’s a tribute to the country’s colonial history, indigenous ingredients, or the Afro-Venezuelan influence that has shaped much of the food culture. It’s not just about eating; it’s about understanding the food and what it represents.

The restaurant has built a loyal following, with customers praising its generous portions, authentic flavors, and friendly service. It's a true gem in Brooklyn, offering a slice of Venezuelan home cooking in a city full of culinary diversity. If you’re looking for an experience that offers both incredible food and cultural immersion, Arepera Guacuco should definitely be on your list. Whether you’re a seasoned fan of Venezuelan food or trying it for the first time, this spot will undoubtedly leave a lasting impression on your taste buds.

  • Small and cozy, fresh and delicious food made to order, super friendly staff. Had the stuffed arepa with shredded beef, plantain, added avocado, and drank the lemonade with molasses last week, still thinking about how delicious it all was. Will be back for the rest of the menu :)

  • This spot is new to me and serves some seriously impressive food. Their cooking feels amateur. I make repeated visits to this restaurant. The staff balances rapid service with friendliness. I'm truly impressed by all aspects here and plan frequent returns !

  • Best arepas I’ve ever had. The meat melts in your mouth and each arepa is packed with all sorts of fresh flavors. I love the shredded beef with cheese, avocado, plantains, and black beans. The sweet savory combination is so good. Cocktails are to die for as well. It’s a small place, not a ton of seating, so get there early. Turnover though, is decently fast. You will not regret coming here.

  • The tequeños were crispy, the hallaca was good, and the salad was okay—it depends on how much mayo you like. The pernil, however, was terrible. The service was excellent, with very friendly and welcoming staff. The prices are high. Great atmosphere, good music, and good vibes.

  • Friends and I went around 8:30pm, nice ambience with low lighting and “lanterns” on the table. Not busy at all and service was good. 3/4 of us got empanadas, they are huge in my opinion. 1 was enough for dinner and I took my second home to warm up the next day for lunch, it was also still good after being reheated. I would definitely get food there again.

  • Amazing food and drinks in a clean and cool atmosphere. The Leo’s Arepa and Sangria are top notch. Such amazing customer service and food. Also enjoyed the rum punch and pernil arepa. Honestly can’t go wrong with anything on the menu.
